Youth Coaching
“How does one become a butterfly? You have to want to learn to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”
– Trina Paulus, Hope For The Flowers
The spiritual meaning of a butterfly resembles comfort, hope, change and positivity. There is something incredibly profound and uplifting for me about coaching young people between the ages of 16 – 23. Young people, after all, are in a natural phase of their life of rapid and significant physical, brain, psychological and relationship development, as well as undergoing the development of their own moral compass.
My aim for a personalised youth coaching journey, is to support them through this transition phase, providing youth with that very necessary springboard to jump successfully into a life of growth and fulfilment and ultimately prepare them for the world of work.
Woven into my Papillon way of thinking, one can compare this journey to that of a caterpillar in their warm safe cocoon, who is ready to transform through the last uncertain and life changing phase of becoming a butterfly. During this stage of the transformation the caterpillar must push through the cocoon with its legs, and thereafter carefully remove the triangular pieces covering its eyes.
My youth coaching approach enables youth to “strengthen their legs” and equip them to remove the “blinkers” on their eyes by building the necessary resilience and confidence to survive in this brand-new life of theirs. If they complete the 16 sessions with me, they will walk away with a clear understanding of who they are, and how they need to show-up in the adult world.
We work on characteristics and traits that may trip them up in life, while providing them with tools on how to manage themselves effectively in the adult world. My approach focusses on autonomy, goal setting, developing a voice and choice and then pursuing those goals with an action-based outlook.
Youth interested in this journey must arrive willingly and excited for these sessions, with a strong interest in self-development and foreward movement. They must be committed to investing time and energy in themselves.
